NEWSLETTER 31/08/16

Welcome back to everyone and a special word of welcome to our new junior infants and children who have joined us up through the school.

A few points to remember:

Arrival Time:

9.15 am for all children.

(For the first two weeks junior infants go directly to their classroom via the back middle door).

Departure Times:

  • Junior Infants finish at 12.30pm each day (up to and including Wednesday September 14th). Parents wait at the junior play area.

  • Senior Infants finish at 2pm as usual. All other classes finish at 3pm.

  • The overflow car park at the junior play area will be open at 3pm each day.

  • A reminder that parking outside the main gate is only on the left side of the road facing away from the school.

School Tracksuits:  Tracksuits ordered during the summer are now ready for collection.

Book Rental/School Expenses:  Please use the envelope provided with the school report (one envelope per child please).  This will help us to provide receipts and keep an accurate record of payments.

Staff News: Ms. Hayden is away on parental leave at present and will return at the end of the month.  She is replaced by Ms. Sukprasert.

Congratulationsto Mrs. Julian (previously Ms. Mulhare!) and her husband David who married in July.

NEWSLETTER 27/06/16

HOLIDAYS:  A reminder that the school closes tomorrow (Tuesday) at 12.30 (infants available from 12.20).  The overflow car park will be open from 12pm.  No uniform required.

THANKS!  We thank all parents who helped out in any way since last September.  A special word of thanks to our Parents Association (including those who helped at our 6th Class graduation last Thursday) and to our new Board of Management for their generosity and commitment to the school.

 SCHOOL YEAR 16/17:  The school re-opens on Wednesday August 31st.  For parents who have ordered new track suits they will be available on Thursday and Friday August 25th/26th from 10am to 12 noon in the school sports hall.

P.S. if parents have uniforms/tracksuits in good condition and are no longer needed they can be left in to the school up to Friday July 8th.  (The school office will be open each day from 9am – 3pm).

DRAWING CLASSES:  Thanks to Fiona O’Connor for all her work with children from 4th and 5th classes.  The results are amazing.  Well done to all concerned.

SUMMER CAMP (July 4th – 8th):  Camp hours are 10 am – 2pm each day (children should arrive for 10 am – not too early please!)

SCHOOL TOURS:  A big day tomorrow for children from 1st to 6th classes.  The tour buses will be using the “drop off” area but the overflow car park (Junior Play area) will be open.  Extreme caution please!

SCHOOL DIARY /  SCHOOL RULES:  Our diary for 2016/2017 is going to the printers this week and we want to give you advance notice of some adjustments to rules for September.

  • In the event of unusually hot weather shorts may be worn. Plain, loose fitting, knee length navy shorts only.  The short version of the school trousers can be worn at any time.  No leggings please.
  • Use of hair dye is not allowed.

 HOLIDAYS:  The school will close next Tuesday at 12.30 with infants available from 12.20.  The school re-opens Wednesday August 31st.

 SUPER TROOPERS SUMMER CAMP:  School based Summer Camp will run from 4th to 8th of July.  Some places still available.  All welcome!

ATHLETICS:  More good news for Josh McDonald (6th) !  He is Leinster Champion in the 80m sprint after a titanic battle in Tullamore on Sunday.  He finished 3 hundredths of a second ahead of his nearest rival from Co. Meath.  Congratulations Josh!

 YOUNG ENTREPRENEURS:  Bizworld is an organization sponsored by Bank of Ireland which visits primary schools promoting business ideas and skills.  Ms. Farrell’s 5th Class took part in a two day workshop last week and it turned out to be a great success.  Thanks to our past pupil and manager at Bank of Ireland (Athy), Kieran Kelly for all his support and encouragement.

ATHLETICS:  Congratulations to Josh McDonald and Padraig Doyle who represented the school at the schools county sports held in Tullamore last Wednesday.  Josh returned home as County Champion in the high jump and 80m sprint while Padraig reached the final stages o the high jump and finished in the top half of a very competitive 1000m race on one of the warmest days of the year.  Well done lads!

SOCCER CAMP:  St. Anne’s F.C. will host a summer soccer school at their grounds from July 25th – 29th.  Payment can be made by installments if required.  Please contact Paul Hickey (087) 7570987.  Brochure attached.

COMMUNITY NOTICE:
Supervalu Hits for Club –  Ballylinan Juvenile Ladies G.A.A. Club is one of the nominated clubs for the new scheme.  If shopping in Pettits you can pledge your tokens to the club with a target of 2000 tokens.  Once achieved the club will receive sports gear and equipment.  Every €40 spent earns a token and the deadline is July 17th.  The club very much appreciates your support.

NEWSLETTER 02/06/16

GREEN SCHOOLS:  Thanks to everyone who returned the surveys, especially families with multiple copies!  Over 75% were returned and we very much appreciate the effort.

 WEEKLY ENVELOPE:  The last weekly contribution envelope of the year will be sent home next Wednesday June 8th.  Receipts will be enclosed with the end of year reports.

 FOOTBALL BLITZ:  The annual football blitz for 3rd and 4th classes will be held on Thursday June 16th at the G.A.A. pitch.

 Cumann na mBunscoil News:  Michéal Downey (6th class) will play on the Laois team at the half-time exhibition match in Nowlan Park on Saturday evening.  Ryan Brady and Lochlann Kelleher also from 6th class have been chosen on the Laois team to play in an inter-county blitz on June 10th in Kilkenny.  Best of luck to all concerned.

 BALLYLINAN G.A.A.: We have been asked to inform you that access to the field via the lane is ‘’pedestrian access only’’.  Cars should use the Aughanure entrance.

 BANK HOLIDAY ARRANGEMENTS:  The school closes tomorrow Friday at the usual times and re-opens next Wednesday at 9.15 am.
