Practice for this year’s Panto ‘Aladdin’ has commenced. 6th class are getting stuck in to rehearsals and are really excited about going on stage in a matter of weeks, on Tuesday 17th and Thursday 19th December. Already it’s shaping up to be a great show and promises to be like nothing we’ve ever put on before! Check out some of our scenes in action!
23rd October – Meeting with parents of Eucharist and Confirmation candidates in Arles
7pm – for parents of Eucharist candidates
8pm – for parents of Confirmation candidates (6th class only)
This is a very important meeting for all parents of children due to receive sacraments in 2014.
At the recent A.G.M. of our Parents Association a number of fund-raising ideas were discussed. Next Friday, October 25th we are “dressing up” for Halloween! A few rules – no masks and no one piece costumes for infants! The cost will be €2 per child or €3 per family.
We have spoken to classes about the dangers associated with Halloween and we have all seen the horrific injuries suffered by children at this time of year. We hope that our children will have an enjoyable and injury free celebration.
Thanks to all parents who signed and returned the “Protect Primary Education” cards leading up to the budget. It was a very good outcome for our school and the benefit will be obvious next September when we will have an additional teacher.
After we return from our mid-term break the arrangements for swimming will be as follows:
4th Class – Portlaoise – Thursday or Friday
3rd Class – Portlaoise – Thursday or Friday
2nd Class – Athy – Wednesdays
This year’s panto is “Aladdin” and will go on stage before Christmas. More details to follow.
Having been postponed due to snow from before Christmas all eyes are on St. Anne’s Hall, Ballylinan this Monday and Tuesday Mar.14th and 15th for the staging of “Jack and the Beanstalk” by the children of Ballylinan N.S.
With a cast of 242(+1 adult) the children range in age from 5-13 years. For producer Bernie Dunne and her team of Ann Sourke, Suzanne Farrell, Paul Hickey and Michael Byrne this is the 7th consecutive year of children’s panto in Ballylinan starting with Pinnochio way back in 2004! The production receives wonderful local support and is a real “community event”. As is tradition the acting parts are played by the children from 6th class guided by their teacher Aileen Brennan and for the first time ever are joined by an adult, Michael Sourke as “The Giant” who is no stranger to panto(and Passion Play)!. All the other children join in at different stages with their own musical contribution so a night of top class entertainment is guaranteed!
Tickets are sold out for both performances but for these children it may be the start of a career “on the boards”!!
