FIRST PENANCE:
Tonight (Tuesday) in St. Anne’s church at 7pm.  Refreshments for the children and their families in the school immediately afterwards.

CHOIR:  We ask children in the choir to be in the church at 6.50 pm and the ceremony should be over by 7.45 pm.  (No uniform necessary).

SKIPPING FOR LIFE:
Workshop Thursday March 10th 9.30 am – 3pm.  (All Classes).  Each class will be timetabled for one session.  COST: €2 per child or €3 per family.

FLAG CEREMONY:
The raising of our new national flag will take place next Tuesday, March 15th at 12 noon.

SOCCER:
Best of luck to our girls team which will represent the school tomorrow at the FAI Schools finals in Portlaoise.

ABBAN’S QUIZ FINAL:
Best of luck to the team of Lorcan Page, Conor Loughman, Jesse McEvoy and Cian Dunne who have qualified  for the final on Thursday night at 8pm in Killeen Hall.

HOMEWORK CLUB:
The club will finish for this term on Thursday March 10th and will resume after Easter.

HOLIDAYS:
The school will close on Wednesday, March 16th at 12.30pm  (infants from 12.20)  and re-open on Monday April 4th.

COMMUNITY NEWS:

KIDS DISCO / LIP SYNC (Full Rehearsal)
– With DJ Colm O’Connor – Wednesday 9th March 6 pm to 7.30pm in  Ballylinan GAA Clubhouse.  Admission €2.  Each act will get to rehearse their chosen song.  IT’S NOT TOO LATE TO REGISTER.  All acts must pay their €5 on the night of this rehearsal.  Main event with KIDS DISCO on Wednesday 16th March at 6.30pm in the GAA Clubhouse.  Disco open to all kids.  Admission €2 on the night.

 

NEWSLETTER 01/03/16

CONFIRMATION – Congratulations to the children in 6th Class who received their Confirmation last Saturday.  Thanks to Ms. Hayden for all her work in making it a very special day for her class.  There were great compliments about how the children conducted themselves and how much they contributed to the ceremony.  Well done to all concerned!  Choir– Well done to the musicians, Mrs. Browne and her choir for adding so much to the occasion.  The children looked very well in their school tracksuits and the singing was excellent.  Some of the boys were rushing off to play a soccer match afterwards and we very much appreciate that they were present to support 6th class.  Church – The church looked beautiful on the day.  Well done to Ms. Hayden and her ‘team’ of helpers who put in many hours of preparation.

Next Tuesday, March 8th at 7pm.  (followed by refreshments for the children and their families at the school).  This is another choir occasion so we are hoping for full attendance.

SKIPPING WORKSHOP:
‘Skipping for Life’ will visit the school on Thursday, March 10th and will work with each class.  We are asking for a contribution of €2 per child or €3 per family.

COMMUNITY NEWS

KIDS DISCO / LIP SYNC BATTLE – Wednesday 16th March @ 6.30 pm in Ballylinan GAA Clubhouse. Admission €2.  Calling all underage ‘Pop Stars’ – would  you like to enter a solo or group act into our Kids Lip Sync?  If yes, contact Sinéad on  087 6228230.  Entry fee for group or solo act – €5.  Kids disco and lip sync open to all ages.  Also back by popular demand …try to beat the CUBE challenge on the night.  Funds raised will go towards the resurfacing of the lane down to St. Annes and the GAA pitch. Kids Lip Sync Rehearsals – beginning tomorrow Weds 2nd March 6.00 pm – 7.30 pm in the Ballylinan GAA Clubhouse.  Children can pick their song and star practising their moves for the main event on the 16th.

 

 

BALLYLINAN JUVENILE GAA CLUBRegistration for the coming year will take place this Sunday March 6th in the GAA Clubhouse – 2pm – 5pm.  Cost €10 per child.

SCHOOL CLOSURE – Friday February 26th (General Election)

ASTHMA – We are compiling a record of children attending the school who suffer from asthma.  The information you provide will be of help to us in the event of an emergency.  Please return the attached Asthma Record Sheet form as soon as possible.

For children who are using inhalers it is important that we have a spare ‘reliever’ inhaler in school and a spacer if available.

HOMEWORK CLUB – No club on Thursday (25th).

CONFIRMATION

We wish the children from 6th class well for next Saturday (11.30 am in St. Anne’s Church).  Our choir has been wonderful in rehearsal – children should be in the church by 11.15 am. Choir children are to wear their school tracksuit.

PLEASE NOTE:

*  Reserved seating for sponsors and candidates only.
*  Please do not take photographs/video during the ceremony.
*  There will be lots of opportunity after the ceremony and we will arrange a group        photograph on the altar.
*  Albs for the candidates will be distributed in the room at the back of the church from 10.45 am, and returned there after the ceremony.
*  The albs come to us on the strict understanding that children do not wear make-up.
*  We ask for your full co-operation.

NEWSLETTER 16/02/16

 SCHOOL CLOSURE – The school will close tomorrow (Wednesday) at the usual times and re-open on Monday 22nd at 9.15 am.  (No Homework Club tomorrow, Wednesday)

 ZIM DAY – Well done to everyone for a fantastic day last Friday.  Ms. Cotter would like to thank children, staff, parents, grandparents and friends for their generosity and hard work.  A special word of thanks to Ms. Farrell, Mrs Hurley and their classes for their trojan effort.  The day raised just short of €2,000 and will be put to very good use at Assisi High School in Zimbabwe.

NEWSLETTER 10/02/16

MID TERM – A reminder that school will close on Wednesday Feb. 17th at 3pm. and re-open on Monday Feb. 22nd @ 9.15am.

GENERAL ELECTION – The school will be closed on Friday Feb. 26th.

HOMEWORK CLUB – Due to school closures please note the club will operate as follows –

Next week:  Monday 15th and Tuesday 16th only.

Election week:  Monday 22nd, Tuesday 23rd, Wednesday 24th only.

 TIN WHISTLE – Classes for both groups next week on Wednesday February 17th – no class Thursday or Friday due to school closures. No change for this week.

DRAWING CLASSES – Classes begin this Friday (Feb. 12th) from 3pm – 4.30pm.  The lessons will run for 8 weeks and for the moment are confined to 4th class.  The children starting this week have been informed.  We thank Fiona O’Connor for volunteering her services and the programme looks very exciting and is wonderful opportunity for the children involved.

INTERNET SAFETY TALK – We had a very good attendance of parents at the talk on Monday provided by gardaí from Athy.  The talk may be repeated later in the year if there is sufficient interest.  Please let us know.

ZIM DAY – FRIDAY FEBRUARY 12TH – Our annual fundraiser takes place this Friday.  Any unwanted toys/books/games in good condition would be very welcome or items suitable for a raffle.  People have been wonderful in the past for providing cakes and buns on the day, so we are asking again !!  Please label containers/lids so they can be returned to you.  On the day there is great value to be had so children only need a small amount of money.  Please get your children to bring carrier bags for their purchases.  Remember that all proceeds go to help the children attending Assisi High School, Nharira, Chivhu, Zimbabwe, providing resources for their educational needs.
