NEWSLETTER 14/09/16
BOOK BILLS/RENTAL:
Once again thanks to all who have paid. Any refunds due to parents who qualify for the book grant will be paid this week.
INFANTS:
Our new infants have settled in well and will remain in school until 2pm from tomorrow (Thursday 15th). The children will line up at the back of the school from tomorrow morning. The first bell goes at 9.15 am, so as close to that as possible will be helpful. Please remember the extra lunch, but not too much!
POSITIVE PARENT PARTNERSHIP (Triple P):
The group spoke to our new parents in June and our Parents Association has invited them back to provide a training course open to all parents in the autumn. The course will run over 4 nights (October 6th, 13th, 20th and 27th with a follow up on November 17th). We would highly recommend the course.
HOMEWORK CLUB:
The club is back this week and it is great to see the enthusiasm.
TIN WHISTLE:
Classes resume this week as follows:
Thursday: children who have never played before.
Friday: all other children.
FOOTBALL:
Competitions are now in full swing. The girls met a very strong Abbeyleix team last Thursday and will hope for better luck when they visit The Heath this week.
The boys have 2 wins out of 2 after another impressive performance in Durrow yesterday. They will travel to Gaelscoil Phortlaoise next week. Many of the boys are part of the Ballylinan G.F.C. team which will meet Killeshin next Tuesday in O’Moore Park in the U12 County Final. We wish them well and hope they will do us all proud. This group has improved greatly over the summer months and congratulations to all involved. Fingers crossed!
FOUND:
A sum of money was found in the junior infant yard this morning (Wednesday). Please contact the school office.

NEWSLETTER 06/09/16
Book Rental/School Contribution (Costs): Thanks to everyone who has paid. Through the book rental scheme we have tried to keep cost as low as possible. The benefit to families is often greater in the senior classes.
As explained before the school contribution pays for the services provided for your children such as materials for art/science, assessment tests, photocopying, 24 hour personal accident insurance, etc. As we have to pay many of these costs in advance we would appreciate payment as soon as possible please.
Book Grant: Families who qualify for the “Back to School Clothing Allowance” are also eligible for the book grant. Please let us know.
School Tracksuits: Tracksuits ordered during the summer are now ready for collection.
Cumann na mBunscol Football League: Competitions begin this week with the girls hosting Abbeyleix on Thursday while the boys are at home to Mountmellick on Friday
Girls U12 Football: Congratulations to the girls who were crowned county champions last Saturday. In very bad conditions they defeated Park/Ratheniska by the narrowest of margins 3-1 to 1-6. Well done to all concerned!
Parking: A reminder to parents that the junior playground is open for parking after school (3pm).
Healthy Lunch: As part of our policy we are asking that parents do not send sweets, crisps (and similar snacks), chocolate, fizzy or energy drinks to school please. We would also ask parents to be careful about the quantity of food they are sending in as children feel they need to finish everything.
