Safety

At a recent meeting of our Parents Association the issue of safety in the car park was discussed and it was decided to ask Laois Co. Council Road Safety Officer, Yvonne O’Reilly, to visit the school. She made a number of suggestions which will make it safer for your children getting to and from school. Overall, she said the traffic system is working well, but pointed out the following:-

Morning:

If you need to leave your car – use a parking bay. “Drop-off” means “drop-off”.

Afternoon:

1. Do not double park at any time. This is the most common and most dangerous problem.

2. Do not take short cuts across traffic on foot. Use pedestrian crossings and give good example to your children.

3. Use the overflow car park (Junior Play Area). On very busy days this can be extended onto the basketball courts. You will not be “trapped”. The traffic moves freely and there is good shelter along the front of the school if it is wet.

Remember:

1. You are on school grounds – Drive Slowly and expect the unexpected.

2. If possible, reverse in – drive out.

3. If you are sending someone to collect your children, explain the rules to them.
